On December 5, 2022, the electrical measurement of Hua 3 well showed that the bottom hole temperature reached 202.5℃ and the bottom hole pressure reached 116 mpa, which indicated that the field application of the 230℃ ultra-high temperature drilling fluid independently developed by Millennium Energy Co., Ltd. achieved a major breakthrough.
Hua 3 well is a pre-exploration well located at the high point of Dachang structure in Sichuan Basin. The target layer is Dengying Formation. The designed well depth is 6755 meters.
It was estimated that the bottom hole temperature was as high as 220 degrees Celsius at the completion of the drilling. The actual bottom hole temperature reached 202.5 degrees Celsius when the drilling was completed to 6540 meters.
In view of the high temperature and high pressure characteristics, well Hua 3 was designed to be drilled with oil-based drilling fluids at sixth and seventh drilling to ensure successful exploration.
Millennium Energy formed a team led by Liu Guangmeng, a secondary technical expert, to carry out anti-ultra-high temperature experiments.
"The biggest problem is the material's resistance to temperature. After 200 ℃, every 1 ℃ rise puts the material's resistance to temperature to a severe test.
High temperature stability is difficult to control, prone to viscosifier or thinner, resulting in sinking shaka drill."
"According to the design, although they are oil-based drilling fluids, the sixth drilling is high density and the seventh drilling is low density, and the drilling fluid performance control is very different," Liu said of the difficulty of research and development.
As the hole depth increases, the bottom hole temperature increases.
Many research institutions and companies are doing research on drilling fluid resistant to high temperature, and the ultra-high temperature oil base drilling fluid resistant to more than 200 ℃ is a worldwide problem, the actual use temperature in China has not exceeded 200 ℃.
The drilling fluid system developed by Millennium Energy Co., Ltd.can be used in water-based oil-based mud,it can effectively reduce fluid loss in an environment of 230℃, and the cost is only one-third of traditional drilling.
