Oxidized Asphalt

Oxidized Asphalt

The unique properties of oxidized asphalt make it indispensable for specialized applications including industrial roofing systems, pipeline coatings, hydraulic membrane installations, and high-stress pavement sections. Its enhanced rheological properties provide excellent resistance to flow at high temperatures while maintaining sufficient flexibility to prevent low-temperature cracking, ensuring long-term performance durability in demanding service environments.

Description

Product Description

Oxidized Asphalt is a critically engineered material produced through the controlled air-blowing of petroleum-based bitumen, resulting in significantly enhanced physical properties and performance characteristics. This specialized oxidized asphalt undergoes a fundamental transformation in its chemical composition through oxidation at elevated temperatures, converting base asphalt with inherent limitations into a superior product with tailored rheological properties. The manufacturing process involves blowing air through heated petroleum asphalt, which promotes dehydrogenation and polymerization reactions that increase molecular weight and modify the colloidal structure of the material.

The production of this high-performance oxidized asphalt yields substantial improvements in key parameters: significantly elevated softening point, substantially reduced penetration value, and markedly improved temperature susceptibility. These transformations result in a material that demonstrates exceptional high-temperature stability, reduced thermal sensitivity, and enhanced durability under varying environmental conditions. This type of oxidized asphalt exhibits particularly superior performance in applications requiring resistance to deformation under heavy loads and prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, while simultaneously maintaining adequate flexibility at lower service temperatures.
