On October 22, the Guidelines for Green Manufacturing and Low Carbon Emission of Oil and Gas Field Equipment and Materials (the Guidelines), led by the Engineering Materials Research Institute (EMRI), was officially released. This is the first green and low-carbon international standard proposed and led by PetroChina in the oil and gas industry, which is of great significance in promoting global energy low-carbon transformation and high-quality development. It is of great significance.

Oil and gas field equipment and materials are the cornerstone of the oil and gas industry and low-carbon energy development, and their green manufacturing faces deep-seated problems such as imperfect manufacturing level evaluation tools and standard systems, and more data silos in product design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance.
In order to help the whole oil and gas industry chain reduce carbon and emissions, in 2019, with the strong support of PetroChina's Science and Technology Management Department and other departments, the Engineering Materials Research Institute, relying on China's fruitful scientific research and standard innovation achievements in the field of green manufacturing and remanufacturing, submitted a proposal for a standard for the Guide to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The proposal was approved in May 2023 as a project. Subsequently, the development of this international standard was successfully completed through the full cooperation of experts and scholars from more than 10 countries, including China, Canada, Russia, the United States, and France.
For the first time, the Guide standardized the definition and connotation of green manufacturing and low carbon emission, and unified the language framework for the industry. At the same time, it clarifies the green and low-carbon attributes of oil and gas field equipment and materials as well as the contents and requirements of design, manufacturing, remanufacturing, evaluation and management, provides guiding suggestions and typical examples for green and low-carbon transformation of the oil and gas industry, and builds up the framework of the standardization system for the green and low-carbon development of oil and gas field equipment and materials, which provides directional guidance and references for the development of the subsequent related standardization work and the international standard.
