Product Description

This high-efficiency organophilic bentonite viscosifier is a dry-process gellant that achieves full rheological properties under low-shear mixing and low ambient temperatures, significantly outperforming traditional organophilic clays. With thermal stability sustained up to 400°F (204°C), this high-efficiency organophilic bentonite viscosifier is ideal for demanding applications such as casing packs, packer fluids, lost circulation control, and spotting fluids. Its optimized particle morphology ensures quick hydration and structural development, reducing mixing time and energy consumption while providing consistent fluid performance across various operating conditions.

Through advanced surface modification technology, this high-efficiency organophilic bentonite viscosifier demonstrates superior compatibility with a wide range of base oils including diesel, mineral oil, and synthetic paraffins. The product's unique platelet structure enables rapid formation of a three-dimensional network that provides excellent suspension characteristics and gel strength development, even in low-energy mixing environments.

Applications/Functions

Enhances viscosity, yield point, and gel strength in oil-based drilling and completion fluids

Conditions drilling mud prior to long-term storage or transportation to prevent solids settling

Improves suspension capacity in packer fluids and well completion fluids

Facilitates formulation of high-performance spotting fluids for stuck pipe mitigation

Stabilizes fluid properties in high-temperature and high-pressure (HTHP) environments

Enhances fluid loss control and wellbore stability through improved rheology

Advantages

Thermally stable up to 400°F (204°C), ensuring performance in deep and high-temperature wells

Rapid dispersion and hydration, even at temperatures as low as 35°F (2°C)

Requires minimal mechanical shear for full activation, reducing mixing time and cost

Cost-effective alternative to conventional viscosifiers with higher treatment rates

Compatible with all mineral oil-based fluids and common OBM additives

Provides consistent rheological properties under static and dynamic conditions

Improves suspension of weighting materials and drilled solids

Technical Mechanism
The viscosifier functions through quaternary ammonium compounds that render the bentonite organophilic, allowing it to disperse in oil-based systems. When properly dispersed, the individual clay platelets form a card-house structure that creates gel strength and viscosity through hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces between particles.

Typical Properties

Appearance: Light tan, free-flowing powder

Specific Gravity: 1.7

Moisture Content: ≤ 3%

Particle Size: 90% passing 200 mesh

Bulk Density: 0.8-1.0 g/cm³

Recommended Treatment
A treatment range of 2-10 ppb is recommended based on desired viscosity and well conditions. Introduce the product gradually through the mixing hopper to ensure uniform dispersion and avoid clumping. For optimal results, pre-hydrate the viscosifier in base oil under moderate agitation to accelerate activation. Pilot testing is advised to determine the ideal concentration for specific fluid formulations and temperature conditions. In high-density fluids, higher concentrations may be required to maintain adequate suspension properties.

Packaging & Storage
Available in 25 kg multi-ply paper bags with inner polyethylene lining. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area away from moisture and direct sunlight. The product remains stable for 24 months when stored under proper conditions.
