Positively Charged Asphalt Sealing Agent

Positively Charged Asphalt Sealing Agent
Product Introduction:
MENEX is a specially modified, naturally occurring asphalt derivative used to reduce filtration in most water-based muds. The surface of the particle is positively charged through a special process to ensure that the colloidal particles are fully dispersed and uniformly distributed, with no delamination or freezing issues. Its softening point is designed for a wide range of temperature applications. MENEX can extrude into formation microfractures to form a filming/sealing/plugging mechanism that stabilizes shale and prevents sloughing. The high-performance properties of this product include preventing sloughing, enhancing lubricity, controlling HPHT fluid loss, and providing high dispersion with true softening.

Product Description

This high-performance positively charged asphalt sealing agent is a specially modified, naturally derived asphalt additive engineered to deliver exceptional filtration control and wellbore stabilization in water-based drilling fluids. Through a unique surface treatment process, the particles of this Positively Charged Asphalt Sealing Agent carry a positive charge, ensuring colloidal stability, uniform dispersion, and resistance to delamination or freezing in the mud system. With a carefully designed softening point range of 250–420°F (121–216°C), this advanced Positively Charged Asphalt Sealing Agent is adaptable to diverse temperature conditions, actively penetrating micro-fractures and pore throats in the formation to form a robust filming, sealing, and plugging barrier that minimizes fluid invasion, prevents shale hydration, and mitigates wellbore sloughing.

The positive surface charge of this innovative sealing agent enables strong electrostatic interactions with negatively charged clay minerals and formation surfaces, promoting enhanced adsorption and sealing efficiency. This unique characteristic differentiates it from conventional asphalt products, providing superior performance in stabilizing water-sensitive shales and controlling fluid loss in permeable formations. The product's thermal plasticity allows it to soften and flow at formation temperatures, effectively sealing micro-fractures while maintaining flexibility under changing downhole conditions.

Applications/Functions

Recommended Treatment
A typical dosage ranges from 4–12 ppb, depending on well conditions, temperature, and desired fluid loss control. For optimal results, introduce the Positively Charged Asphalt Sealing Agent gradually during mixing to ensure uniform distribution and maximize sealing performance. Pilot testing is advised to determine the ideal concentration for specific mud systems and downhole environments.
