Description
Oxidized Bitumen Powder consists of asphaltenes, colloids, saturates, and aromatics, and is insoluble in water. After oxidation, the asphaltene content increases while resin content decreases, resulting in a higher softening point. By selecting different raw materials and controlling oxidation levels, Oxidized Bitumen Powder can be produced with varying softening points to meet diverse operational requirements.
In oil-based drilling fluids, this Oxidized Bitumen material acts as a dispersed phase that not only reduces filtration loss but also strengthens the wellbore, reduces torque, and suspends barite. Its amphiphilic nature also allows use in water-based systems, where it enhances filter cake lubricity and provides anti-sticking effects. It effectively plugs filter cake pores, modulates bonding between solid particles, and contributes to filtration control and wellbore stability.
Under high-temperature high-pressure (HTHP) conditions, it demonstrates superior rheological performance compared to other filtration control agents and conventional asphalt materials. After aging at 180°C, its rheological properties remain consistent with the base slurry, whereas conventional asphalts tend to soften at high temperature and increase in viscosity. It also exhibits excellent stability in oil-based fluids and helps maintain high electrical demulsification voltage.
