ME-TROL HT400 & ME-XP10 & ME-TROL 275 is Asphaltic and treated Gilsonite and other polymers by special processing. It is used in stabilizing shale sections, controlling HPHT fluid loss, minimizing spurt loss and sealing micro-fractured shale. The wide range of high softening property is highly approved. It operates at a broad temperature ranges ,particularly in extreme HTHP drilling operation, where very few additives can be survived.

It can inhibit the dispersion of drilling cuttings, control HTHP filtration, produce thin and dense mud cake, maintain low shear rate under HTHP, reduce the transmission of pore pressure and seal micro fractures and low porosity sand. Keep formation integrity and develop effective filter cake. Because the decomposition temperature of the product is as high as 500 °F, can control the highly dispersive and fractured shales with sloughing tendencies,,a high-strength adsorption membrane is formed on the surface of mud cake ,effectively stabilize brittle shale .,and can reduce washouts in Inter bedded sand sequences.

It has minimal effects on rheological properties.But an increase in viscosity at low temperatures can be observed. It is stable to many normal drilling fluid contaminants and operates at a broad pH range.

ME-TROL HT400 & ME-XP10 can resistant to high formation temperature up to 400F°,ME-XP10 can resistant to high formation temperature up to 500F°,it have been widely used for many OBM to stabilize shale and reduce hydration. It is proposed that the material, added to a OBM system prior to encountering a problem shale, would penetrate the shale pore spaces, micro-fractures, and bedding planes as the bit is penetrating the formation. By a plastic-flow mechanism, ME-TROL HT400 &ME-XP10 would squeeze into the pores, fractures, and bedding planes to reduce or minimize filtrate and whole mud invasion, and thus bond the matrix to prevent collapse. CNPC and their operators had reported in more than 200wells in China that ME-TROL HT400 &ME-XP10 was superior to the blown Asphaltic-type additives because of its higher softening point and stabilities. In addition, it has been reported that ME-TROL HT400 &ME-XP10 plates out on the borehole wall, creating a thin film. However, penetrate deeper into the fractures, due to their high solubility, and do not "plate" as well as the insoluble products.


In order to obtain a satisfactory effect, it is usually used to inhibit the hydration and expansion of mudstones and shale, and the inorganic salts are mixed and combined with organic polymers.
